I’m Inspired By …

The world of opportunity! To me, nothing is etched in stone. No matter what is happening “out there,” there are ways to look at things differently by changing out the lenses and re-imagining the outcome differently. I come from a long line of fixers and love to dig into problems, dissect them and try out new ideas. Not working the way we thought? Working OK, but could be better?  Or my favorite: Working quite well so why change it? Why, indeed. Let’s dig in!

Buffie, is that your real name?

Thanks for asking! Yes, it is, and it’s spelled with an “ie”, not a “y” (but I won’t hold that against you if you get it wrong). My grandma had a huge influence over the selection of my name – one my mom will happily share with whomever asks. Might be giving away my age here, but it’s from the TV show Family Affair not Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  As you can imagine, I get asked if I’m a vampire slayer all the time. Again, thanks for asking and yes, I AM! Grandma also had a huge influence on me and the person I have become. Let’s just say she was the fixer extraordinaire and amazing! If only I could be half the woman she was.

Isn’t there more?

Sure! I was a good corporate soldier, climbing the ladder, landing that coveted Senior Vice President Title, but pushing a lot of paper and never really feeling satisfied. You might have called me jaded, and that wouldn’t have been too far from the truth. Not my choice to leave – my company decided they didn’t want to play in that sandbox any longer and didn’t need someone in my high position.  But, WOW, what an amazing opportunity!  There is a great deal of freedom to be told you aren’t needed anymore. What was I going to fix? The next three years as a consultant was some of the most exciting times of my life because I got to fix everyone else!! And the best part? I got paid – a lot. Who knew that was possible? But I was working for a good sized consulting firm and I was still not feeling inspired. I knew there was more, and because of luck and good fortune, it was possible to go out on my own and become the entrepreneur I never knew I wanted to be. I needed to feel like I was really doing something important. Time to move on. And it has been a roller coaster ride ever since – and I enjoy roller coasters! I found out that I have a undying love of helping people be financially self-sufficient. I believe in the power of multiplication.  And I figured out that I could make a difference in the world by intertwining my gift of the fix, my passion for learning and sharing what I know, and love of business for the power to change people’s lives into a business that can support me, my family, my team and all the customers who are doing the same thing. If you want to know what makes me tick. Ask me about why entrepreneurs and business owners are so vital to our communities and our economy, and I will share a story of how being the first to tip the domino in rows and rows of dominoes is so very, very thrilling.

I Always Dreamed of…

Daydreaming with you, pulling out our creative pens and making those dreams materialize – and with our other services, helping your company flourish.  Communication is highly memorable and impactful when wrapped up in a story.  It’s no accident that what we remember from our days as a child are stories! This water-loving gal spent many years thinking about dreaming with others before I actually took the plunge.  As part of this creative team I have the opportunity to dream with your company and actually, live the question; “What If?”   Just like searching for growth, people want to create their own types of meaning. Not everyone is a writer, not everyone is an artist, not everyone is a business strategist — but everyone seeks to create their own type of meaning and expression that their clients can identify with.  “What if…?”

On a Personal Note:

While creativity and adventure are a big part of my personal life, i.e., photography, writer/author, kayaking, and the great outdoors, my very dirty hands are my favorite personal side!  I love to play in the dirt!  At my core I believe that every child has the right to know where their food comes from, how to grow it, harvest it, put it away and enjoy it.  After starting a 6,000 sq. ft. Teaching Giving Garden, that has taught hundreds of youth, I have begun a small, growing giving garden at We Spark Growth and WorkAround.  Follow our story!

This quote sits in that noisy, creative place in the back of my mind, and I love to share it often.  It is amazing how you can stretch your creativity, and your business if you do one thing every day that scares you.  Good scary fear!
